Hello World
Why a software developer started writing stories.
I've spent a lifetime writing code. I got quite good at it, do anything for three or four decades and you develop a bit of a knack.
Programming wasn't just something I did, it was someone I was.
I was lucky enough to get paid for it, but I did it for the joy of it.
There's nothing like taking an idea and turning into something real and tangible.
Then in 2026 AI got so good at writing code it wasn't worth doing it by hand. What used to take months could be done in minutes. At first it was exhilerating, it still is! But something of the joy in the craft was lost for me.
Which left me feeling something was missing. I needed the creative fix.
Then I began to wonder if writing stories, building and shaping them,
might have some similarities to writing code and creating software.
Perhaps not exactly the same, but similar enough. And while people probably don't care if AI or humans wrote some code. They might just care whether an AI or a human wrote a story.
Either way (at least for the moment) writing is giving me the creative kick I was missing, and learning how to write feels like learning how to code back when I was a teenager.
